Exploration
Once you've sent your cargo ship out on a trading expedition or special mission, you can also choose to have it explore enroute. This takes time and will delay the arrival of the ship at its destination.

To choose this option, click Exploration on the navigation bar on the left. From here, you can order any cargo ship you have out in transit to explore uncharted territory. There is a limit to the number of hours each day that a ship can explore, because, after all, they are supposed to deliver their cargo. You may choose to have a ship explore once for a few hours, or several times for shorter duration. Longer explorations are more likely to be successful, but of course you have fewer of them.

Exploration can yield valuable rewards, such as items that can immediately be added to the ship, unusual commodities that you can sell, or discoveries which can improve your Fame, but exploration can also produce useless artifacts, or simply nothing at all. You make the decision whether the time is better used to explore hoping to find something new, or for getting to your destination more quickly.

Premium accountholders will have a chance of an additional serendipitious exploration discovery once per day.
