Alliances
Alliances are groups of traders, putting the collective power of their companies together to form a unit. There are many benefits to joining an alliance, and one of them is the ability to collectively create an Alliance Armada.

An Alliance Armada is created from donations made by members of the alliance, on the Alliance Center screen. Anyone can contribute whatever credits they feel they can spare for this purpose. The contributions become a fund for the purchase of armada ships.

The Alliance Leader designates someone to become the Armada Commander. The Armada Commander must be and remain a member of the alliance, and can be the Alliance Leader him/herself.

The Armada Commander controls the armada, including the purchase of armada ships, targetting particular pirate ships for destruction, or assigning the armada to patrol a particular Star System. The Armada Commander has an Armada Control Room, entered from the Alliance Center, where s/he can give orders to the alliance armada. Members of the alliance can see the status of their armada in the Alliance Control Center.

Armada ships come in two types, Dreadnoughts and Starfighters. The following table gives the cost and firepower of each.

Armada Ship Type Cost Phasers
Dreadnought 10,000,000 10
Starfighter 1,200,000 1

Armada attacks are automatic, and can happen in one of two ways:

If the Armada has a specific pirate ship designated as a target, and the location of the target ship and the armada are the same Star System, then the Armada will automatically attack the targetted ship each hour.

If the Armada is patrolling a Star System, it will automatically come to the defense of any alliance member's that is attacked by a ransacking pirate ship, and add its firepower to the defense of the alliance member.

In addition, random mercenary pirates will not raid alliance members when their Armada is patrolling a Star System.
